Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 camera phone now listed on Amazon

Panasonic officially made the Lumix DMC-CM1 hybrid camera phone available in the US a couple of weeks ago. And now, the camera…err, phone…camera phone is now on Amazon. This means another easy way to get this Lumix hybrid device that services both as a compact digital camera and smartphone in one. Those who like multi-purpose gadgets, this one is for you.

Introduced at the Photokina event last year, this camera phone (or phone camera, you say) boasts a 1-inch 20 megapixel digital sensor. The 20MP detail is enough to convince us it can take high quality photos but the size of the sensor is the largest on a smartphone. A 28mm f/2.8 Leica DC Elmarit lens is used and there are manual controls that let you adjust the white balance, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and focus. It’s like having a DSLR  camera but only in a more compact form and right on your mobile phone.

Amazon lists the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 with a $999.99 and free shipping. As of this writing, Amazon only has 3 more units left in stock but it promised more will be available. It’s a bit expensive for a smartphone at a thousand bucks but the DSLR-quality of images you can capture are worth it. That is, if you are into serious mobile photography.

The Leica Lens optics and lens control ring let you take great photos even in low light conditions. Camera phone can also record videos in 4K at 15fps. Other specs include NFC, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 4.7-inch HD touchscreen interface, 16GB built-in storage, 2GB RAM, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, microSD slot, and 4G/LTE connectivity. Phone runs Android 4.4 which can still be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming months.
